Review of Yahoo! Webhosting

This isn't really a full-blown review yet, just a few thoughts.

Annoyances

The Yahoo! interface is acting like it's impossible to have Yahoo! host my website, but have another company host my DNS. It seems to want to control the entire DNS zone. This wouldn't be much of a problem, but the DNS tools Yahoo! provides seems really limited. For example, there is no way to add TXT or SRV records.

The other problem with giving Yahoo! control of the DNS zone is that it would then control the MX records. It looks like I can configure these, so that's not too much of a problem.

The mail services provided here are not very elaborate either. You can setup a number of POP mailboxes, which I guess is nice if that's what you want. You can also setup mail forwards, but the forwards have to point one of the POP mailboxes. I really want to be able to forward to another mail server completely, but it doesn't seem possible.

My final complaint at this point is that Yahoo! is adding some HTML to the end of the page when I access it from their server. It's there for helping with the page tracking. However, it's not standards-compliant. In addition, if you have image-loading turned on, this page tracking stuff causes some text to be added to the page!
